3.Dark Lines Beneath the Nail

Dark bands or marks may follow injury with bleeding under the nail. If streaks appear without trauma, see a doctor promptly because skin cancer is a concern. Called melanonychia, these lines are more worrisome when limited to one nail. Some harmless causes include certain medicines, pregnancy, or natural pigmentation, yet any new or changing streak needs review. Subungual melanoma is the most serious risk. Early detection matters, so a dark line that widens, darkens, or shifts should be checked quickly.
