Capybaras' reproductive approach is exactly calibrated for success in survival. Two litters a year are produced by women, each comprising four to eight puppies. The children are born precocious, which means they are rather mature and mobile from birth, so improving their prospects for survival. Birth time is coordinated in groups to guarantee greater protection of children by means of numerical strength. This reproductive tactic guarantees population stability even under very strong predation pressure.
